The Festival of New Dance turns twenty this year and in honor of that anniversary Neighbourhood Dance Works is launching a fundraiser titled: Do You Think You Can Dance? This fundraiser aims to celebrate our diverse dance community by offering an opportunity for dancers to share their talents with their peers and the general public. In the style of the television program we will be holding auditions, both virtually, through YouTube, and in person. On Monday, March 8 the chosen dancers will perform on the St. John's Arts and Culture Centre Stage in front of a live audience and a panel of celebrity judges.
Neighbourhood Dance Works
Neighbourhood Dance Works (NDW) is dedicated to the development of a
vibrant dance community and the advancement of emerging and mature
choreographers. We are committed to the creation and dissemination of
contemporary dance through workshops, residencies and presentation. We
support local dance creation and facilitate the exchange of skills and
knowledge between local, national and international communities.
Founded in 1981 by Cathy Ferri as a performance collective, Neighbourhood Dance Works began by creating innovative dance works for stage. It later shifted its focus to presentation, introducing the first Festival of New Dance in 1990, curated by Ann Anderson. Under her direction, and subsequently that of Lois Brown, Anne Troake and Sarah Joy Stoker Neighbourhood Dance Works provides opportunities for local artists to present work in programs with top-notch Canadian and international choreographers.
Neighbourhood Dance Works’ ongoing support and development of Newfoundland choreographers and dancers has advanced the careers of many Newfoundland dance artists and has made the Festival of New Dance a highlight of the St. John’s performance season.
